Mission Statement

Odyssey Academy teachers are committed to the total personal and academic literacy of each student. The program is designed to prepare students for success at the university level. Within our curriculum we implement strategies to give the students opportunities for developing real world skills: problem solving, managing time and organizing; and developing personal skills such as responsibility, team building and positive interdependence.

Is Your Goal a College Degree?

Do you have a plan to reach your goal?

Lakewood has a comprehensive, four-year program to help you get there:

The Odyssey Academy

Odyssey Academy is a unique and innovative college-bound program. The purpose of the Odyssey Academy is to prepare students to be successful in college by providing an enriched English, math, science, and social studies curriculum.

Odyssey Academy teachers are committed to helping students succeed. Odyssey teachers plan lessons together, helping students to make connections from one class to another.

A major focus of Odyssey Academy is on marine studies. This ocean theme is seen both inside the classroom and real world Odyssey field trips to research labs and aquariums.

What does Odyssey Academy Offer?
• University preparatory courses
• Enrichments activities in class and on field trips
• Support and guidance with the PSAT, SAT, university application, and financial aid process
• Active parent booster club that supports student achievement
• Odyssey Academy Medal awarded for graduation when A-G University requirements are met successfully.

What can I expect when I join the Odyssey Academy?
You can expect an emphasis on teamwork. As a participant in Lakewood High School’s Odyssey Academy, you can expect to work with students and teachers as a team. Odyssey Academy personalizes the learning experience by including activities that promote teamwork and cooperation.

You can expect connections from one class to another.
In the Odyssey Academy, students learn how the subject matter of one class relates to that of another. For example, keeping in line with the marine theme, a student project might involve the designing of a marine exposition. Students would work on this project in their Odyssey classes, using knowledge and information from each to create the exhibition. Exhibitions such as this promote proficiency in writing, group presentations and thinking skills in a format that encourages creativity and individuality.
