Advancement Via Individual Determination
AVID's mission is to close the acheivement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.
* The recently updated mission statement still reflects AVID's core purpose, and our focus remains the same-ensuring college readiness for all students.
THANK YOU SOROPTIMIST INTERNATIONAL CLUB!!
Lakewood's AVID Program would like to extend our deepest Thanks to the Soroptimist International Club (Lakewood) for their generous donation to our SENIOR AVID Scholarship Fund. Because of their donation, and some fund raising efforts, we will be able to present AVID Scholarships to some of our deserving Seniors. If and/or when you see a member of the Soroptimist Club, make sure you say 'Thanks' on behalf of Lakewood HS AVID!
AVID Elective Classes
The AVID elective classes help students prepare for and succeed in colleges and universities. Students in the classes commit themselves to improvement and preparation for college. AVID offers a rigorous program of instruction in academic 'survival skills' and college level entry skills. The classes teach the student how to study, read for content, take Cornell notes, and manage time. Students participate in collaborative study skills or tutorials which are led by College tutors who use skillful questioning to bring students to a higher level of understanding.
If you would like to visit or observe an AVID elective class tutorial, please contact Mr. Estes at 425-1281 ext. 3107 or pestes@lbschools.net.
